PRIORITISING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION Waratah Homes is a prestige residential construction company specialising in custom-built homes, and they have been providing building services to South East Queensland for more than 16 years. The Waratah Homes team has proudly built homes for discerning clients from the Gold Coast to Noosa and the Western Districts, including 34 Endeavour Foundation prize homes.
Waratah specialises in period-style colonial and federation homes, as well as contemporary designs – you are not restricted to one particular style as the team has a unique background in all styles. Waratah’s working directors; Steven Smith and Ernie Whittle have a collective building experience of more than 55 years to draw from and a wealth of knowledge to further enhance your project ideas. Waratah Homes focuses on attention to detail, customer satisfaction and maintaining traditional construction methods, working with clients to achieve an outcome to be proud of. They provide one-on-one design, construction and project management services. Your new home will be unique and developed to suit your land selection, inclusion list and budget. Waratah’s period-style designs draw inspiration from Australia’s best country estate homes of yesteryear yet integrate the modern conveniences of the most up-to-date technology, while their contemporary designs reflect current global design trends and emerging materials and systems. Many luxurious appointments were used in the featured home, including marble tiled and solid timber floors and ornate carpets. The tasteful use of period-style fittings such as solid cedar joinery and mouldings, VJ cedar wall panelling, porcelain/brass light switches, solid brass door furniture, plaster arches and ornate cornices and a wood burning fireplace with an authentic solid brick chimney give a depth of character rarely seen in this day and age. The design boasts a master suite with his and her wardrobes and an ensuite, three additional bedrooms with built-in wardrobes, a media room, a study, a large attic area that can be used as additional accommodation, and a double lockup garage. The home also incorporates an underground cellar with built-in wine storage displays. Ornate aluminium balustrades complement the expansive timber verandas that offer access to the beautiful views and cooling mountain breezes. The clients had been residing in a beautifully built and appointed home where they had lived and raised their children for 20 years, and it held many fond memories. The key features and overall design of the new home needed to capture and retain the connection to their previous property, while adding additional rooms and facilities in keeping with their new life on the mountain. Many features were replicated where possible, with an overriding need to orientate the home and individual rooms to maximise aspect and energy efficiency considerations. Large portions of the original home’s floor plan were mirror reversed, an entertainment pavilion was added to the facade, and attic and cellar areas were also added. The main living areas were centred around a north-easterly aspect which makes the most of morning and afternoon sun considerations, allowing year-round use of the entertainment area directly off the kitchen and family rooms. The cellar’s location was determined by the most economical use of the natural slope of the clients’ block, with considerations for ease of access from the main living areas. The attic with a separate powder room was included for multi-purpose use including as a sewing room and visitor accommodation. The use of traditional dormer windows in the attic enhances the feel of the home, and maximises views and natural breezes. Waratah Homes has won 34 industry awards for excellence, demonstrating that traditional building values are still embraced and respected in an age of cost-cutting and volume output. Waratah Homes has a full range of consultative services available to assist you with design, fit-out and colour selections.
