Jon Mees Homes

It’s not often that the feeling of being on a permanent vacation while in your family home is so perfectly executed, however, these homeowners are able to enjoy this beachside oasis year-round. The home is complete with five bedrooms, three bathrooms plus a powder room, a gym and a cinema room, as well as a spacious alfresco area including a kitchen and dining spaces, plus a bar.

Located in Pelican Waters, the home is situated within the canal system to give the illusion it is completely surrounded by water. To emphasise this notion of a beachside oasis, the home boasts its own private beach, which uses the water that flows under the main interior hallway and out to the stunning infinity pool.

To complete this show-stopping home, the building design team from Christopher Design worked closely with the builders from Jon Mees Homes. The interior design of the home was then carried out by Mark Gacesa of Ultraspace to create a project that exemplifies modern luxury.

Designed to suit a family that loves to entertain, the lighting and finishes create an atmosphere that is bound to impress any guest upon entering the home. The entertaining area, as well as the interior design, kitchen and cabinetry, have contributed to the many accolades this home has received since its completion in 2013.

Some of the awards won by Jon Mees Homes include the Housing Industry Association (HIA) 2013 winner in the Sunshine Coast Home of the Year, Queensland Best Bathroom, Queensland Outdoor Project, Sunshine Coast People’s Choice Award and the Master Builders Association (MBA) 2014 Sunshine Coast award for Quality Workmanship.

Key to the design of this home was the seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. To achieve this, the designers maintained the same materials and finishes throughout the home’s interior and exterior. The curved design and abundance of glass maximise on views of the water throughout the entire residence. By unifying the themes, finishes and detailing throughout each indoor and outdoor space, the home exudes a truly resort-like feel.

Exceptionally detailed throughout, the home’s joinery is of particular interest. New Guinea rosewood has been used for both the cabinetry and the windows to bring a sense of warmth to every space. To balance with this heavy material, a light and earthy cream travertine was used elsewhere.

Bespoke in every sense, the home also includes natural stone-clad hand-built features in the form of architectural columns and walls. In addition, artificial thatching has been used on the ceilings, joinery and walls.

Like the expansive alfresco area, the kitchen has been designed with entertaining in mind. An oversized benchtop runs parallel to a beautiful aquarium, and the space is kept clutter-free because of the concealed scullery.

This beautiful home exemplifies the quality and talent of the team at Jon Mees Homes. A family-owned company, Jon Mees Homes is based on the Sunshine Coast and run by husband-and-wife team Jon and Nikki Mees. The duo works together with clients on a limited number of homes each year to ensure the end result epitomises luxury.
