Stuart Osman Project 7
Displaying an impressive, articulated façade, this open-plan home spans two levels with gorgeous living spaces and ample storage. Building designer Stuart Osman and builder MTB Carpentry & Construction executed this knockdown and rebuild to perfection. Offering a modern take on a beach façade home that stands out against the predominant brick and tile dwellings in the area.
As the project’s builder was also the homeowner, the brief called for oversized rooms and extensive storage for work and leisure equipment. The two-storey design caters for such needs, giving the homeowner sufficient space to store large and bulky items. Stuart Osman also utilised the sloping block to construct a basement that facilitates easy access to the rear yard and outdoor living areas, offering additional storage potential and ease-of-access.
Stuart Osman carefully managed the finished floor levels against the natural slope of the site while creating the layered gable roof design and keeping within the building’s height restrictions. From the street, the exterior looks grand and inviting, and within, achieves an openness that flows throughout the home.
The centrally located staircase allowed Stuart Osman to position large rooms at the front and rear of the home, and the installation of louvre windows takes advantage of ocean breezes from all angles, whilst capturing the sun throughout the day.
The open-plan kitchen, living and dining area showcases clean finishes, a crisp colour palette, refreshing pops of greenery and rattan pendant lights for a touch of boho chic. The kitchen includes a capacious island bench with up to four seats, copious cabinetry, two wall-mounted ovens and an adjoining butler’s pantry for streamlined cooking and food preparation.
Entertaining and communal living is made possible with floor-to-ceiling stacker doors, creating a seamless extension from the living quarters to the alfresco space. The gable roof extends over the outdoor area, effectively weatherproofing the secondary dining zone. A guest room was also included in the build with direct outdoor access for additional hosting possibilities.
