The extension to this amazing Queenslander home was expertly built by Gerard Ryan from RYCON Constructions. Designed by architect and homeowner, Scott Petherick from SP Studio, the well-ventilated family property seamlessly connects the indoors to the outdoors. Taking advantage of the beautiful Queensland sunshine, the kitchen and dining area features floor-to-ceiling sliding windows that offer a stunning outlook over rows of lush gardens. Situated on a sloping site, the home required extensive excavation prior to construction of the downstairs section, which includes a guest bedroom, laundry, office and rumpus room.
The kitchen’s structural-steel eyelash awning casts artistic shadows throughout the day, and also softens the harsh afternoon sun. Stacked doors crafted from New Guinea rosewood open to a paved courtyard, which features a functional fireplace. The home’s open-plan design and extensive windows provide an abundance of natural light, which combines with rainwater tanks and drip-irrigated landscaping for a cost-effective result.
Building primarily within the inner city of Brisbane, RYCON Constructions never fails to achieve impeccable standards of workmanship, regardless of the complexity of the site conditions.
